Privacy Policy

The short version

Mathness is a math puzzle game. We collect the minimum information needed to run your account, save your scores, and let you challenge friends. We do not sell your data. You can delete your account from inside the app at any time.

What we collect

Account data. Your email address (for sign-in and password reset), the password hash, a display name you choose, and an avatar id.

Gameplay data. Every puzzle you submit — the target, the numbers, your expression, your score breakdown, and the time elapsed — tied to your account so it can appear on the leaderboard and your profile.

Social data. Friend relationships, match invites, and match results between you and other players. Notifications you receive.

Push notifications. If you turn on push notifications, we store the Web Push subscription your browser or device issues — an endpoint URL and the public keys needed to encrypt a message to it — so we can alert you about friend invites, your turn in a match, and match results. Turning notifications off in Settings deletes the subscription.

Preferences.Email-notification opt-ins, music on/off + volume, and sound-effect mute. Some preferences live in the browser's local storage and never reach our servers.

What we do NOT collect

• Real name, phone number, address, or any government ID.
• Your full payment card number — if you ever pay for something, our payment processor handles the transaction; we never store card details.
• Location data, contacts, photos, or microphone audio.
• Browsing activity on other sites or apps.

Who we share it with

We share data with a small set of service providers that act as data processors on our behalf:

• Supabase — database, authentication, real-time delivery of notifications.
• Resend — sends transactional email (friend invites, match notifications, password resets).
• Vercel — hosts the application.
• Your device's push service (Google, Mozilla, Apple, etc. — whichever your browser uses) — relays the push notifications you opted into. Used only when you enable notifications.

We do not sell or rent your personal data, and we never sell it to data brokers.

How long we keep it

As long as your account exists. When you delete your account (Settings → Delete account, or by emailing us), every row tied to your account is removed from our database within 30 days. Backups roll over within 90 days.

Your rights

You can:

• Access the data we hold about you — visible on your Profile and History pages, or by email request.
• Correct your display name, email, or password from Settings at any time.
• Delete your entire account from inside the app (Settings → Delete account). This is permanent and unrecoverable.
• Opt out of optional emails (friend invites, match turn alerts, etc.) from Settings.

If you're in the EU/UK, you also have the right under GDPR to request a data portability export and to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. If you're in California, you have CCPA rights to know, delete, and opt-out — Mathness does not sell personal information, so the CCPA opt-out is automatic.

Children

Mathness is not directed at children under 13 and we don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has signed up, email us and we'll delete the account.

Cookies & local storage

We use a session cookie set by Supabase Auth to keep you signed in. We use the browser's local storage to remember your sound and music preferences.

Changes

If we materially change this policy, we'll update the effective date at the top and (for signed-in users) email you before the change takes effect.
